Breathing Lessons
Film Festival
Breathing Lessons is a film festival that aims to expand public awareness of the verbal abuse of people who have disabilities through a series of independent films and planned experiences. All of the phrases I used have been said in conversations with people who have disabilities.
The title of this project alludes to taking things for granted, and is a reference to my Uncle Brek, who communicates via breathing into a tube connected to a computer. Brek, who has Lou Gehrig's Disease was a tremendous influence to this project.
It's with sad news that I update this to announce that Brek passed away on 1/18/2011. He will be missed, but is in a better place now.
